IOWA CITY, Iowa – With the game tied at two, Illinois (18-19) scored four unanswered runs in the fifth inning to win the series finale, 6-2, and take the series over the University of Iowa baseball team (22-16) on Senior Day at Duane Banks Field.
Softball
- Both Iowa State and Northern Iowa have earned bids in the NCAA Tournament. Both teams were placed in the Columbia Regional with Southern Illinois and host Missouri. The Cyclones (32-21) and Panthers (31-18) will meet in the opening round of the double elimination tournament on Friday afternoon. For Iowa State, it’s the first NCAA tournament berth since 1988.
- IOWA CITY, Iowa – The University of Iowa softball team defeated Illinois, 4-3, on Sunday afternoon. With the win the Hawkeyes finish the regular season fourth in the Big Ten, their highest finish since 2012 and finished with a record of 26-18.
Track and Field
- The UNI men’s track and field team captured its third-consecutive and 10th outdoor conference title at the Missouri Valley Conference Outdoor Championships on Sunday in Carbondale, Ill. with 167.50 points, while the women finished fifth overall with 82 points.
- The three day American Rivers Conference Meet hosted by the University of Dubuque wrapped up Saturday afternoon. The Loras women’s team ran away with the team title scoring 247.5 points while Dubuque was 4th with 101. Women’s Staff of Year – Loras College – Matt Jones, Female Field Performer of the Year – Grace Alley, Loras College Female Track Performer of the Year – Elayna Bahl, Loras College. In the men’s meet Wartburg won with 247 followed by Dubuque with 148, Loras was 3rd with 139.5. Male Field Performer of the Year – Zachary Naatz, University of Dubuque.
