WandaVision and To All The Boys: Always and Forever took home top honors at the 2021 MTV Movie & TV Awards, Best Show and Best Movie, respectively, which aired Sunday night live from the Palladium in Los Angeles. The Falcon & The Winter Soldier star Anthony Mackie and WandaVision‘s Kathryn Hahn also won Best Hero and Best Villain, respectively.
Mackie also picked up the popcorn alongside his The Falcon & The Winter Soldier costar Sebastian Stan for Best Duo, mysteriously promising “There’s more to come.”
On the topic of heroes and villains, the popcorn for Best Fight went to Hahn and Elizabeth Olsen for the intense WandaVision final battle between Agatha and Wanda. The two took a beat to shout out the special effects team, saying their climatic brawl would have been nothing but dramatic hand gestures had it not been for them.
Olsen also collected the award for Best Performance in a Show.
The most moving moment of the night came when Chadwick Boseman was posthumously honored with Best Performance in a Movie for his role in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom. Grown-ish star Yara Shahidi accepted the award on his behalf, saying, “We are honored to celebrate his art today and every day. His impact is everlasting and we are eternally grateful for the ways his presence and his art has changed the world. We love you and we miss you.”
Boseman died last August after a silent battle with cancer.
The event was hosted by Supermarket Sweep host Leslie Jones.
Presenters included Mandy Moore, Eric Andre, Tom Hiddleston, Billy Porter, Seth Rogen, Anthony Mackie, Addison Rae and Henry Golding.
The night’s honorary career awards — The Generation Award and Comedic Genius Award — were given to Scarlett Johansson and Sacha Baron Cohen, respectively.

A 26-foot tall statue of the late icon Marilyn Monroe is stirring up controversy for a myriad of reasons.
NPR reports that the “Forever Marilyn” installation, which had spent the past seven years in another location, returned to Palm Springs and is currently situated in front of the Palm Springs Art Museum. The piece honors the legendary actress’ famous scene from The Seven Year Itch where she stands over an air vent in a white dress.
The statue, once hailed as a tourist attraction, is now being deemed an eyesore by a small but loud collection of residents who are petitioning for its removal.
Louis Grachos, the director of the museum, has a problem with the statue’s backside facing the building.
He previously argued during a city council meeting to determine whether or not to welcome back the statue, “The thought of those kids leaving our museum and having the first thing they see is the undergarments and underwear of this enormous Marilyn sculpture would be highly offensive.”
Another critic, Elizabeth Armstrong, launched a Change.org to remove the statue — which she deems misogynist.
“It’s blatantly sexist,” remarked Armstrong, saying the statue objectifies the icon by promoting upskirting — an activity where people try to sneak photos up another woman’s skirt.
So far, the petition has over 40,000 signatures.
Others have called for the statue’s relocation, claiming the art piece does not follow local regulations and city ordinances.
Trina Turk, a fashion designer, said, “We’re sticking to the street and highway code and the ways in which Palm Springs did not follow its own rules in the process of closing this street.”
The backlash shocked Aftab Dada, head of PS Resort, who spearheaded Marilyn’s return. He will now launch an independent study to research the statue’s economic boon to the city.

After suffering a year-long delay because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the world finally has a new Miss Universe. Miss Mexico a.k.a. Andrea Meza was crowned the winner in Sunday night’s pageant.
The ceremony took place at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida and was hosted by former Miss Universe 2012 Olivia Culpo and Mario Lopez.
In light of the COVID-10 pandemic, which postponed last year’s pageant, Meza was asked what she would have done had she been in charge of keeping her country safe.
“I believe there is not a perfect way to handle this hard situation such as COVID-19,” the beauty queen admitted. “However, I believe that what I would have done, was create the lockdown even before everything was that big because we lost so many lives and we cannot afford that. We have to take care of our people.”
“That’s why I would have taken care of them since the beginning,” she closed.
Other remarks that stood out were Meza’s stance about the beauty industry, noting how it plays a crucial role in dismantling harmful stereotypes.
“Nowadays, beauty is not only the way we look,” she noted in her final statement. “For me, beauty radiates not only in our spirit, but in our hearts and the way we conduct ourselves. Never permit someone to tell you that you are not valuable.”
In this year’s competition, Miss Brazil a.k.a. Julia Gama was named runner up while Janick Macet, Miss Peru, finished third.
Meza inherits the crown from 2019’s winner Zozibini Tunzi, who was Miss South Africa.

Robert De Niro is in good spirits after suffering an injury while making another film with Martin Scorsese.
“It wasn’t on the set,” the 77-year-old film legend told ABC Audio while promoting his upcoming Tribeca Film Festival. “It was in my house, I just stepped over something, and the next thing I know I had sort of ruptured my quad. Crazy thing, it just happened, you know.”
A rep for the Oscar winner said the injury occurred at the house he was renting in Oklahoma while filming Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon. The rep also explained that the actor’s treatment won’t affect his work on the drama, because De Niro wasn’t scheduled to shoot again for another three weeks.
Killers of the Flower Moon centers on a real-life series of murders in 1920s Oklahoma. In the film, De Niro plays a wealthy rancher named William Hale, and fellow Oscar winner and frequent Scorsese collaborator Leonardo DiCaprio reportedly plays his nephew, Ernest Burkhart.
The film is based on journalist David Grann‘s book Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI.
