UNIVERSITY PARK — Penn State football’s home contest against Indiana on Oct. 2 will kick off at 7:30 p.m. on ABC, it was announced Monday.

The game will also be available on the Penn State Sports Network (6 p.m. airtime) and GoPSUsports.com. The Nittany Lions hold a 22-2 all-time record vs. Indiana, with Indiana winning last year’s matchup 36-35 in overtime.

Penn State faces off with Villanova in Beaver Stadium this Saturday at noon on Big Ten Network.

Smith honored

UNIVERSITY PARK — Penn State junior linebacker Brandon Smith was selected Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week on Monday, announced by the league office.

Smith had a big impact in Penn State’s 28-20 win over Auburn on Saturday. The junior tallied a career-high 10 tackles against the Tigers. He added a tackle for loss, a pass breakup and a QB hurry.

Pitt game at noon

PITTSBURGH — The Atlantic Coast Conference announced Pitt’s Oct. 2 game at Georgia Tech will kick off at noon and be televised by the ACC Network.

Zinobile, Dillow named

LOCK HAVEN — Two area players were named PSAC football players of the week on Monday. In the West, Clarion’s Quinn Zinoble, a Juniata Valley High School graduate, earned the offensive honor, and California University of Pa.’s Noah Dillow, a Chestnut Ridge High School graduate, was the defensive player.

Zinobile did something no Golden Eagle receiver had done in nearly a decade on Saturday, going over 200 yards receiving in a game for the first time in his career. The sophomore recorded five catches for 202 yards against Shippensburg — including 80 yards after catch — and two touchdowns.

Zinobile moved into the conference lead in touchdown catches (4) and is second in the PSAC with an average of 117.3 receiving yards per game. He has scored at least one touchdown in each of the first three games.

Dillow helped anchor a defensive unit that recorded a second-straight shutout, as Cal U earned a 30-0 win over Millersville in PSAC crossover action on Saturday. He tied for the team lead with six tackles and tallied 2.0 TFL and 1.0 sack in the victory.

The Vulcans allowed just 81 yards of total offense, including 22 rushing yards, and four first downs against the Marauders.
