Diab Named to USA Gymnastics World Championship Team – University of Illinois Athletics – Fighting Illini

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Former Illini men’s gymnastics great Alex Diab earned a spot on the 2021 USA Gymnastics World Championship team last Saturday after the conclusion of World Championship Trials at the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Diab, a 2020 Tokyo Olympics alternate for Team USA, scored a two-day average of 14.700, (14.300, 15.100) to post the high score on still rings and earn a bid to World Championships held in Japan.

A four-time Big Ten Still Rings Champion, two-time NCAA Still Rings Champion, and six-time NCAA All-American, Diab was named an Olympic Alternate following the 2021 U.S. Olympic Trials in June. He will be competing on still rings for Team USA at this years World Championships. As is traditional with World Championships in Olympic years, there will be no team competition and team members will compete for individual titles.

The 2021 Artistic Gymnastics World Championships will be held in Kitakyushu, Japan from Oct. 18-24. Streaming information is to be determined.
