Stumptown alum Cobie Smulders has joined the cast of FX’s Impeachment: American Crime Story, according to The Hollywood Reporter. She’ll play conservative pundit Ann Coulter, replacing GLOW‘s Betty Gilpin, who had to drop out due to scheduling conflicts brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic. The third installment of Ryan Murphy‘s American Crime Story franchise will examine the national scandal that swept up Paula Jones, Monica Lewinsky and Linda Tripp — played respectively by Annaleigh Ashford, Booksmart‘s Beanie Feldstein and Sarah Paulson — as principal characters in the country’s highly televised impeachment proceedings involving former President Bill Clinton, played by Clive Owen. Additional cast includes Billy Eichner as Matt Drudge and Edie Falco as Hillary Clinton.
The first trailer for Y: The Last Man, FX on Hulu’s live-action adaptation of the DC/Vertigo comic series, dropped on Thursday. The post-apocalyptic series about how the world is changed by a pandemic that wipes out almost every male mammal on the planet, except Yorick Brown, played by Ben Schnetzer. Diane Lane plays his mother, a U.S. cabinet secretary who finds herself elevated to president after the male chain of command dies of the mysterious plague. Y: The Last Man premieres September 13 on FX on Hulu.

The Masked Singer judge Nicole Scherzinger has been tapped for a role in NBC’s upcoming Annie Live! She’ll tackle the role of Grace, the chief of staff to Harry Connick Jr.‘s Daddy Warbucks. Taraji P. Henson will play Miss Hannigan, alongside and a soon to be announced young performer — discovered via a nationwide search — who will play the titular orphan in the musical, based on Harold Gray‘s 1924 comic strip Little Orphan Annie. Annie Live! is set to air December 2. Meanwhile, Scherzinger has been taping the upcoming sixth season of The Masked Singer, kicking off September 22 on Fox.
Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that Lionsgate Television, which produces the canceled NBC series Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist, is in talks with streaming device maker Roku — which has been making a push into original content — for a holiday movie based on the show. Deals with some of the cast are reportedly still pending. NBC cancelled Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist after two seasons after talks between NBCUniversal and producers Lionsgate TV to move the musical dramedy to its streaming platform, Peacock, fell apart.
