COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Ohio Department of Health reported Saturday afternoon that the state has 379 new coronavirus cases.
This brings the total number of cases to 1,104,380, which includes confirmed and probable COVID-19 cases.
Fifty-seven more Ohioans died from COVID-19 on Friday and 621 more people contracted the virus.
The state did not report any new deaths in the last 24 hours as the state announced new deaths will not be available daily anymore. The state’s dashboard updates the death toll two times a week.
Between 6 a.m. Friday and 6 a.m. Saturday, 27,155 people have completed their vaccination.
The total number of people who have completed their vaccine is now at more than 4.7 million, which represents 40.58 percent of Ohio’s population.
The state follows the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s definition of a “case,” which includes those diagnosed through genetic PCR or antigen tests, or people diagnosed in a clinical setting — experiencing symptoms who are linked to a confirmed COVID-19 case, among other criteria.
More than 172 million people worldwide have or have had COVID-19 and more than 3.7 million people have died from the deadly virus, according to data from Johns Hopkins University & Medicine Coronavirus Resource Center.
More than 33 million people in the United States have or have had COVID-19 and more than 597,000 people have died.
