Coronavirus in Oregon: 356 new cases, 2 deaths – OregonLive

The Oregon Health Authority Wednesday reported 356 new known cases of COVID-19 — part of the slow and gradual decline of infections over the past five weeks. The rolling seven-day average now stands at 316 cases per day.

Officials also reported two new deaths from the disease.

Here’s a look at the status of the pandemic in Oregon Wednesday:

Vaccines: The state reported 14,457 new shots in arms, including 9,428 doses on Tuesday and 5,029 on previous days.

Where the new cases are by county: Baker (5), Benton (8), Clackamas (32), Columbia (2), Crook (5), Curry (4), Deschutes (13), Douglas (16), Grant (7), Harney (11), Hood River (2), Jackson (33), Jefferson (13), Josephine (7), Klamath (8), Lake (1), Lane (26), Lincoln (2), Linn (12), Malheur (8), Marion (40), Multnomah (32), Polk (10), Umatilla (26), Union (2), Wallowa (1), Wasco (1), Washington (25) and Yamhill (4).

Who died: A 53-year-old Jackson County woman tested positive on May 4 and died on Monday at Asante Three Rivers Medical Center, marking Oregon’s 2,675th death from COVID-19.

A 54-year-old Douglas County man tested positive May 17 and died May 27 at his residence, representing the state’s 2,676th COVID-19 death.

Both had underlying conditions.

Hospitalizations: The number of hospitalized patients with COVID-19 decreased by 11 Wednesday, to 227. There were 65 COVID-19 patients in intensive care, a decrease of two from the previous day.

Since it began: The state has reported 201,996 confirmed or presumed infections and 2,676 deaths during the pandemic. That puts Oregon at the third lowest infection rate and fifth lowest death rate among the 50 states. For the past week, however, Oregon has continued to struggle with higher than average numbers, ranking fifth highest in new cases per capita and eighth highest in deaths per capita.

So far, Oregon has reported 3,976,039 vaccine doses administered. That’s 1,863,888 people — or 44% — fully vaccinated and 383,709 people — or 9% — partially vaccinated, according to state figures. That adds up to about 53% of residents who’ve received at least one shot.
